At Active Heart we screen sports men and woman and individuals planning to engage in sporting activities for coronary artery diseases, with a view to reduce the frequency of sport related sudden cardiac death.

Coronary Artery Diseases is the single biggest killer in the UK and leads to around 125.000 deaths per year.
Athletes have died unexpectedly from heart disease during training and competition. The reason for these sudden cardiac deaths is because they have an underlying cardiac condition. If athletes undergo what is a relatively simple screening process we can identify and treat those conditions which can cause sudden death and therefore reduce or eliminate the incidence.

Accurate statistics are not available but experts believe that between 4 to 8 apparently fit and healthy young people die each week as a result of sudden cardiac death, undetected cardiac abnormalities, many of them during or immediately after physical activity. Any athlete who has an undetected cardiac abnormality is at risk.
